"In which, as an aside within a larger sequence, I adapt Primo Levi’s The Story of a Carbon Atom in 60 panels comprised of facets of hexagons/cubes. It was to say the least, a bit of a challenge. (This covers a bit less than a quarter of the 2 page spread) #Nostos #Unflattening 2"

"Goodness this is complicated. (And I typed 1000 words describing it and Twitter deleted them). It’s an excerpt of an in progress two page spread in black and white. I’m retelling primo Levi’s the story of a carbon atom within hexagonal panels or facets of these hexagons as if they were three dimensional cubes. Most of the drawings are realistic with the exception of some diagrams for photosynthesis and the forging of a carbon atom in a star and so forth. The story moves backwards in time left to right (opposite Levi’s telling) beginning with a large dot - the period he ends his story with. We see Levi typing, his neurons firing, the milk he drank that fueled his neural activity, and keep following this carbon atom as it takes on different partners in its journey. Ultimately we snake across the page and end up in the red giant star the carbon atom was forged in."
