"The New York Times Guild supports our colleagues in the Times Tech Guild, who voted 95% to authorize a strike if their bargaining committee decides it's needed.

The NYT Guild's Unit Council (which I'm a member of), the elected representatives of our 1,500 members, approved this statement yesterday."

"We stand with Times Tech Guild & will support them as they seek a fair contract. After more than 2 years of bargaining Tech Guild members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. We salute our colleagues’ commitment. Though our own contract prohibits us from striking, we will refuse any work that would be performed by employees on strike. Times management has fought Tech Guild every step of the way. We in the Times Guild are familiar with the company’s deliberately slow pace. We care deeply about the work of NYT & do not want to see any disruption during a crucial election. But management has failed to make many substantive counterproposals & is refusing to schedule enough bargaining time. The best way to avoid a disruption is for management to offer a fair contract. We leave the decision of what actions to take to the Tech Guild. But as the elected leaders representing the Times Guild's 1,500 members, we want to make clear: We will back the Tech Guild if they choose to strike."
