"I don't know enough geology to comment on this #PlanetaryScience paper, but FWIW an Ordovician age for a ring around the Earth would pre-date most estimates for the formation of Saturn's rings (IIRC). 

So if correct, Earth would have had a ring ~460 million years ago, and Saturn wouldn't have!"
