"人間が自然界を見る時の「偏見」の厄介さを語る記事。たとえば動物の"同性愛"が（多くの観察記録があるにもかかわらず）科学界で無視されてきた背景には、人間社会の偏見がある。観察者である人間もまた、社会の規範が作る思い込みに囚われた存在であると自覚することが大切。
また、「哺乳類のオスはふつうメスより大きい」と思い込んでいる人は多いかもしれないが、実はそれは誤解で、現実には「オスがメスよりも大きい」種は全体の少数派。なのにそう思い込む理由は、我々人間は男性の方が体が大きいことが多いからだが、動物としての普遍性はない。
