"One thing I noticed (compared to friends in Italy) is the minimal number of scans during pregnancy. So, maybe potential problems are not picked up until labour. Also, decision to go for a caesarian is taken earlier in Italy. This was 16 years ago, though, so I don't know if things have changed."
